CARBONDALE — Betsy Leenig, 51, passed away at 10:35 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 24, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Carbondale, with Father Gary Gummersheimer officiating. Interment will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 805 E. DeYoung, Suite B, Marion 62959 and will be accepted by the funeral home.

Betsy was born September 25, 1950, in St. Louis, Mo. to Russell and Shirley Baumer. She married Larry Leenig on June 8, 1974, at Carbondale.

Survivors include her husband, Larry, of Carbondale; one son, Brian Leenig of Carbondale; twin daughters, Tracy and Jennifer Leenig of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Patricia McCune of St. Louis; and her parents, Russell and Shirley Baumer of St. Louis.

Betsy was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Carbondale. She was a long-time employee of Southern Illinois University where she worked at Morris Library, Health Services and was currently the Business Manager at the SIU School of Law.

She was an avid reader and gardener. The Dallas Cowboys and the St. Louis Cardinals have lost their best fan. Betsy was a loving, wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.
